Tellez Tamales and Barbacoa
Tamales from Tellez Mexican Restaurant are out of this world. In our opinion, they are the best in San Antonio. Tellez has several different kinds of tamales including pork, chicken, bean, and pork with jalapeno. Tellez sells their tamales by the dozen and the prices are reasonable at around $7.25 per dozen. Pork with jalapeno are the local favorite and aren't too extremely spicy. Their other tamales are absolutely delicious as Tellez has been written up in Texas Monthly along with other notable periodicals. The Tellez family has been in the business for over 30 years and they make Tamales from scratch by hand daily with a great family recipe.
The restaurant features cafeteria style serving and customers can eat right there in the dining area. The line moves fast and it's been our experience that if you are just buying tamales to go, you can go to the front of the line. Tellez Tamales and Barbacoa is highly recommended.
