San Antonio Express-News

The San Antonio Express News has a weekday circulation of around 250,000 and 350,000 on Sunday. The Express circulation figures make it the third largest newspaper in Texas. The newspaper is owned by the Hearst Corporation and is the leading source of print news for the San Antonio region and all of south Texas.

About the Express-News

In the newspaper history of San Antonio there were two major newspapers, the San Antonio Express and the San Antonio Light. The San Antonio Light was considered to be more conservative of the two papers but closed down in 1992. The result of two competing newspapers in the same market was high quality content and publishing. The Express seems to have maintained its quality news content without a competing area paper which is evident through the many awards given to the San Antonio Express News.

The front page section generally consists of news stories from the associated press (AP) with several articles often written by Express-News reporters. The sections within the Express weekly delivery newspaper consist of the Front Page section, Metro Section, S.A. Life, Sports, and Business sections. The newspaper does a great job of reporting local news with reporters generally taking an unbiased stance on local news. However, the editorial staff can publish some very biased and inaccurate viewpoints from time to time. Overall the Express-News is a fairly decent newspaper when publishing local and regional articles. Additionally, several columnists in various sections have earned quite a reputation for their views and sometimes polarizing topics. My personal favorite is Roddy Stinson, the government waste watchdog of the Express News. On the web - San Antonio Express News

Express News Business Section

If you are looking for local business news and information, skip the Express News business section and look to the San Antonio Business Journal. The staff writers for the San Antonio Express do a fair job of reporting business news. But judging from their understanding of business and corporate reporting, they are obviously not businessmen and businesswomen. They are journalists and reporters. Several of the articles I have read concerning local companies are a bit biased when reporting and the headlines have been extremely misleading. The columnists (not Express staff) that write for the Express News business section do a pretty good job, but they are informed about the subject and have experience and knowledge abut the topic. The articles from the AP news wire are usually a decent read but the local staff writers and headline writers seem to be on a witch hunt for local CEO's and executives more often than not. Again, if you seek good, fact based information about local San Antonio business news, read the San Antonio Business Journal.
