Retama Park Horse Racing
Retama Park is San Antonio's horse racing venue with live racing running from August to November. The track is situated on San Antonio's northeast side of town just off of IH 35. Retama horse track opens at 10:30 am every day for simulcast betting. The simulcast schedule offers a full range of betting options from race tracks around the country including horse and dog racing tracks. Minimum wagering age is 21 but the entire family can have a great time at this horse racing track.
Racing Track Facts
There are two race tracks at Retama Park. The outer main track is one mile long while the inner turf track is seven furlongs. Numerous racing stakes are held at Retama Park including the Texas Stallion Stakes, La Senorita Stakes, and the Texas Hall of Fame Stakes. Retama Park is a class 1 horse track
Retama Grandstand
Overlooking the beautiful Retama race track is the towering grandstand. Three levels are open to the public with betting available on each level. You can watch the races in the open air seating sections or watch the races and bet on a winner in one of Retama Park's many restaurants or bars. I recommend paying the extra two or three dollars to go up to the club level and then into the Race Book and Sports Bar. This whole facility is covered with television sets for simulcast racing and more than enough betting booths for making your wager in time. You can follow the dog tracks and horse tracks at the same time. This is truly a first class racing facility.
Betting at Retama Park
Betting at this horse track is easy. As said before, the availability of wagering stands is more than ample. The track has a guide for novice handicappers. I also think they have a small session that teaches people how to bet on racing, the different wagers, and general horse handicapping for beginners. It's actually quite a friendly place for the first time horse racing handicapper. And as always, you can ask somebody near you for some friendly advice. Texans love to help others, even at the horse racing track. However, whatever you do, don't listen to the guys that come to your table presenting themselves as horse betting experts. They will give you tips that will lose money nine out of ten times but if you win, they'll expect a chunk of the winnings. Bet by yourself!
I would also recommend grabbing the tip sheets that are readily available for the Retama horse races and the simulcast dog and horse races. They're usually a couple of bucks but if you want to bet on just a couple of tracks, get all the handicappers picks for those tracks. The tip sheets and horse picks have paid off on many occasion for me. I think that the more tip sheets, the better my odds of winning. Have fun and good luck at Retama Horse Racing Park.
