San Antonio Mexican Restaurants

Mexican Restaurants in San Antonio are easy to find on any side of town. We have numerous types and styles of Mexican dining options whether it's a taco house or an upscale Mexican restaurant with festive nightlife. The flavors range from local Tex-Mex to "south of the border" seafood. Common dishes such as enchiladas and fajitas are commonly found on menus alongside unique items like stuffed poblano peppers, pollo pibil, or anticuchos.

Of course you can find Taco Cabana here in San Antonio. It was founded here but you can find just about any flavor of mexican food north of the border here as well. There is an endless supply of mexican restaurants in the San Antonio area. Also see the Hole in The Wall Mexican Restaurants.

Picante Grill

Located across from the Witte Museum, Picante Grill is one of our favorite mexican dining places to dine. Their fajitas are out of this world. The enchiladas have been voted as some of the best in San Antonio and their mole sauce is as tasteful as it gets. On our frequent visits, the family is cooking, serving, and visiting with patrons. All of our experiences at this mexican restaurant have been nothing but excellent. Gonzolo, the owner takes special care ensuring that you will be back for multiple visits to this fine restaurant offering Tex-Mex and beyond.

El Jarro de Arturo

El Jarro is routinely busy for a reason...good mexican food. This restaurant is known for its clientele to be mostly made up of local San Antonians, which speaks volumes. I've been going to this restaurant regularly for almost thirty years. The first date with my wife was at El Jarro.

Anybody visiting San Antonio that eats at El Jarro will probably make it a dining stop on their next visit to this city. El Jarro's menu has mexican food that ranges from local Tex-Mex to Mexican style fish and seafood. Order the Maria's Tortillas before your meal. These home made appetizers are outstanding. Tortillas are made right in the dining area and can't be beat. The food at El Jarro is outstanding and this Mexican restaurant has received many award winning reviews for their unique, full-flavored Mexican dishes. Not to be forgotten, El Jarro has a daily Mexican buffet that is out of this world as the food is freshly prepared and reasonably priced.

Los Barrios

This Mexican food restaurant has two locations, one in town and one on the north side just outside Loop 1604. The Barrios family operates the restaurants and has been featured on national television for their family owned and operated restaurant serving only the best food. Hands down, Los Barrios is one of my favorite places to eat. The chimi-churri sauce is out of this world, as is the salsa. Poblano pepper and white cheese quesadillas are my usual order but I have eaten the tacos Diana and am equally impressed, but I'm just partial to quesadillas. Patrons to Los Barrios Mexican restaurant will more than likely meet a member of the family ownership. Louis Barrios or Diana Barrios-Trevino are constantly working the crowd ensuring that their guests are taken care of. This San Antonio Mexican restaurant offers excellent Mexican food with the charm of the Alamo City. Los Barrios has a cookbook available for sale at their restaurants.

La Fonda Sunset Ridge

Rick Shaw owns La Fonda Sunset Ridge and he runs a first class operation. La Fonda serves up Mexican food to the local Alamo Heights crowd daily. La Fonda's manager, Bill Sheridan delivers the best service be it catering a party or in-restaurant dining. Juan, the bartender, is legendary in San Antonio for his margaritas. The food here is fantastic, be it appetizers or the main course. I'm partial to the quesadillas. They're loaded with cheese. Also unique to this Mexican restaurant is their guacamole salad. The sauce on the guacamole salad is also legendary. You can't go wrong with any of the items on the menu. This restaurant has great food, great service and great management.

Soluna

This Mexican restaurant is upscale authentic. The atmosphere is great and the food is phenomenal. If you're headed to the Alamo Heights area, try Soluna. I've had a number of their dishes on weekends and the Tacos Al Pastor take the prize. They come on small corn tortillas (3 to an order) with pico and pineapple. Borracho beans on the side are prepared to perfection. The clientele is more of the local crowd that knows their Mexican food and the wait staff is often from Mexico meaning the cooking crew is also from Mexico. Soluna is a bit of Mexico in the Alamo Heights area.
