Grande Mack Trucks San Antonio

This experience has a great ending due to the efforts of Grande Mack Trucks and their service department supervisor, Mr. Robert Smith. The story takes place at my place of employment, a family owned and operated San Antonio propane company. Our company has a tanker transport that goes to and from refineries in south Texas to pick up propane that we then unload into our bulk storage's for resale. During the winter is when we utilize this truck the most and it was in the middle of winter when this unpleasant turned pleasant experience occurred. Keep in mind that we have only one Mack truck, not a fleet of Mack's.

Grande Mack Trucks

Our transport has always been powered and pulled by a Mack truck for many different reasons, one being the dependability of the make and another being the service and attention we have always gotten from Grande Mack, be it the parts, sales or service department. Any time our tractor has been down, Grande Mack has fixed it properly and at a fair price. Basically, we have a long-standing relationship with Grande Mack one would describe as a very good one.

Our Mack Truck Experience

It was close to the end of January 2007 and our transport was on its way to Corpus Christi to pick up a load of gas when it started having engine trouble and was unable to return to San Antonio. We contacted the Corpus Christi Mack service center, French Ellison and were told to take it there for repair. The truck was able to make it to French Ellison and they then started to work on the truck. During this time, we contacted Robert at the Grande Mack and let him know what was going on with our tractor down in Corpus Christi at French Ellison. He told us to let him know as things progressed and to inform him of what the estimate for repair cost would be once we knew. The next day we received the estimate for repairs from French Ellison indicating a total cost for the repairs on our tractor would be $7,262.91! See the French Ellison repair estimate. Our response was one of shock as we've never seen an estimate for repairs that high for what had to be done. Robert offered to have the truck towed up to San Antonio to Grande Mack Truck Center. Based on what we'd told him, Robert felt that the repairs should be significantly less than what we were quoted by French Ellison and the truck was towed to Grande Mack from French Ellison for repairs. Robert Smith and the service department at Grande Mack Trucks has always been above-board and ethical when dealing with us in any transaction and this was no different. After getting down to the core problem, it was apparent that either French Ellison had either misdiagnosed the problem or had simply attempted to overcharge us. Robert estimated the cost of repairs at around $4000 and when we received the bill from Grande Mack, the total was $4162.43 which is $3100 less than what French Ellison was going to charge us. See the Grande Mack invoice.

In conclusion, the bad taste left in our mouths from our experience with French Ellison made us truly realize what a friend we have in Robert Smith, the service department and Grande Mack Trucks.
