Goliad Texas Day Trip

I've traveled all over the state of Texas and I've dealt with a lot of people across this great state but the people in Goliad Texas give true meaning to our repuatation as the friendliest state in the country. If you've ever met or talked with Darlene from the Goliad Chamber of Commerce, you know what "Texas friendly" really means.

Goliad Texas Courthouse

Goliad is abundant with historic sites, outdoor recreation, and nature tourism. The city of Goliad is the third oldest municipality in the State of Texas. Just minutes from downtown is the renowned Presido La Bahia. It is the only fully restored Spanish Presido in the Western Hemisphere. Here Colonel Fannin and 341 men under his command was executed. Goliad is full force Texas history!

Experience Historic Goliad

Nestled in the San Antonio River Valley amongst magnificent old-growth oaks, Goliad is a place of nature, history, and heritage. Texas ranching had its start here, as Goliad's Mission Espiritu Santo served as Texas' first cattle station. The City of Goliad was established in October 1749, making it one of the oldest municipalities in Texas. The charming Courthouse Square with a pharmacy, restaurants, antique and gift shops, custom-made mesquite furniture store and private residences dating back to the 1800's is entered in the National Register of Historic Places. Visitors are invited to rock in the many rocking chairs located around the square. Historic markers, shaded by the ancient oaks on the courthouse lawn tell the stories of Goliad beginnings. A short drive from Goliad, one will find the most cherished historic Goliad landmark, the Mission Espiritu Santo and Presido la Bahia. It comprises the only Spanish Colonial mission-fort in existence in the Western Hemisphere. Every year in March, living reenactments of the Battle of Coletto takes place on the grounds of the Presido la Bahia. This is just a sampling of what the City of Goliad has in store for visitors. Hiking, biking, fishing and canoing are just a little of the natural experiences one can have in Goliad. Experience Goliad - a Texas destination.
