Calaveras Lake
Like Braunig Lake, Calaveras Lake is a power plant lake that generates electricity for the city of San Antonio. The lake is on the south east side of San Antonio and is operated by the San Antonio River Authority. Calaveras Lake can be accessed through the entrance on Bernhardt Road which is on the east end of the lake.
About Calaveras Lake
The lake is home to many species of birds and various forms of wildlife. Surface water area covers 3,624 acres and the park is 145 acres. So there is plenty of room for family picnics and more than enough room for water sports, boat cruises and fishing. The lake is owned by the San Antonio power company, City Public Service. Calaveras Lake has concessions, supplies for boating and fishing as well as paddle boats and power boats available for rental. Calaveras Lake is a great place for family gatherings and fun in the sun.
Calaveras Lake Fishing
The lake is home to a number of species of fish such as Black Bass, Blue Catfish, Channel Catfish, Red Drum and Striped Bass. There are a number of fishing guides that will happily take you fishing and can generally be contacted by calling the lake headquarters. Most of the fishing guides will have charter trips to Braunig Lake as well. The aquatic vegetation consists of cattails and various other fish holding vegetation. The fact that Calaveras Lake is a much larger lake than Braunig results in more fishing options.
