Just west of San Antonio off of IH-10 is Boerne Texas. Although thought of more as a San Antonio suburb, Boerne is a picturesque small hill country town with a deep rooted German heritage that is evident in the food, people and environment. Visiting Boerne is a relaxing experience for adults and families in the Texas Hill Country.

Boerne is the county seat of Kendall County on the southern edge of the Texas Hill Country. As with all small towns, the main street running through town is the central district for shopping, dining and entertainment. The main street is accessible directly from the IH-10 exit.
The most direct route to Boerne from San Antonio is IH-10 West taking one of several exits the most common being the Highway 87 exit. Highway 87 is also South Main Street and will take visitors to the middle of town. If you prefer a more scenic route, several options are available to enhance the view during the ride to Boerne.
The shopping in Boerne is fantastic and is geared towards the nostalgic shopper. Small stores and boutiques line the main street and are extremely inviting to visitors walking the main district where shoppers can find antiques, country crafts and furniture. The German heritage of Boerne is evident in some of the things you will find in the small family owned stores.
Boerne has many wonderful restaurants to choose from varying in taste and fare. Several are located on the main street in the shopping district while others are off the main drag. One of the restaurants on the main street is the Bear Moon Bakery and Cafe. This is my favorite breakfast place in Boerne with homemade bakery foods and a famous Bear Claw pastry that is absolutely phenomenal. Around the corner from the main street district is the Dodging Duck Brewhaus. The Dodging Duck has great food including Fredericksburg made sausage, fish, burgers and a variety of other good food choices. The Dodging Duck also has some great beer, being a micro-brewery in addition to a restaurant. Other restaurants in the Boerne area offer bbq, Mexican food and burgers but we enjoy these two places when we visit Boerne and recommend the same for those planning a day trip.
Other places of interest in Boerne include numerous historical markers and outdoor activities. The historic Ye Kendall Inn is in Boerne located just off the main street. The historical significance of Boerne is too extensive to fit on this page but a visit to Boerne is undoubtedly a worthwhile road trip destination for a taste of the Texas Hill Country.
