The Barn Door Restaurant

Barn Door steak restaurant

The Barn Door restaurant is known for its steaks but has a large menu with numerous choices besides steak. The Barn Door is located in Alamo Heights just inside Loop 410 on North New Braunfels and is the oldest steak house in San Antonio. The Barn Door has the checkered tablecloths and a friendly wait staff to go with this down home restaurant. One of my favorite things about the Barn Door is the Derby Room - the bar with a race track feeling. You can even pick up steaks and cuts to cook at home. The Barn Door Restaurant is a great place for family dining or hosting a banquet or meeting.

Barn Door Menu Recommendations

For appetizers, the crab stuffed jalapeno's are unbeatable. Get these no matter what you order for your meal. Appetizers like these can't be store bought. Also recommended are fried mushrooms which will feed several at the table. The fried mushrooms are quite a generous helping. Again, the crabmeat stuffed jalapeno's are highly recommended.Barn Door Restaurant in San Antonio

For a main course, we recommend any of the steaks. You can't go wrong with any of the ribeyes, filets or New York strips. Various steak sizes to choose from with each cut of meat. The quail is said to be good although I've never had it. I prefer a big steak with a baked potato. The baked potato's have all the fixin's on the side and there's more than enough for several potato's. The fried shrimp is also awesome. My wife says it's the best fried shrimp she's ever eaten, and they're big shrimp, so she sometimes orders it for carry out. Included with all steak and seafood dinners are rolls, choice of potato (fried, baked, or hash brown), and a salad. They bring all the dressings to your table to choose from. There is a garlic ranch dressing unique to the Barn Door that is fantastic. BARN DOOR NOTE - Ask for real butter instead of the margarine that's on the table. The waiter will bring you a big slab of fresh real butter.

The Barn Door restaurant hasn't been in business for over fifty years for any other reason than it's a quality dining experience. Think of the Barn Door restaurant the next time you want to go to a steak house.
