American Restaurants Page 2

Earl Abel's

One of San Antonio's oldest and longest lived restaurants is Earl Abel's. Not to mention famed, but Earl Abels has been the gathering point for San Antonians for almost 75 years. Although they have recently moved to Austin Highway from the corner of Broadway and Hildebrand they are still serving the best fried chicken in San Antonio and the wait staff still consists of familiar faces. Homemade pies will tempt the most disciplined dieters as they always have. Many Earl Abel's patrons grew up eating at this famous San Antonio restaurant and they still do but they just have to go to the new location to get the best fried chicken ever to be put in ones mouth. Take out is available and the Earl Abel's food to go service is quite fast.

Luby's Cafeteria's

Luby's has been a familiar sight around San Antonio for as long as I can remember. The cafeteria chain was started here in San Antonio and was based here until it was bought by a company out of Houston. Luby's is a great place to eat American down home cooked food. The menu consists of everything from fish, shrimp, and chopped steak to chicken and turkey plates. The LuAnn platter is the "you choose" combination plate and is reasonably priced. Sometimes pulling up to a Luby's cafeteria you'll see the line out the door. Don't worry because it moves very fast. Personally, I recommend any of the fish plates or the cheese covered chopped steak. You can't go wrong dining at a San Antonio Luby's cafeteria. The food is always very fresh and well prepared and the helpings you get are heaping.

W.D. Deli

The WD Deli on Broadway is an excellent choice for lighter fare San Antonio dining. The deli menu consists of homemade sandwiches, wraps and soups. All of the sandwiches I've had at W.D. Deli have been phenomenal! My favorite thus far is the Hoagie sandwich with WD Deli Roast Beef sandwich running a close second. All of the sandwiches come with a side and the only way to go is the pasta salad which is so good, I've never tried any of the other side dishes. W.D. Deli's prices are extremely reasonable with none of the sandwiches over $6.50. I wouldn't have to go too far out on a limb to say W.D. Deli makes some of the very best sandwiches in San Antonio.

EZ's Brick Oven and Grill

EZ's restaurant is a San Antonio original that has expanded to other cities outside San Antonio but was founded here in 1989. EZ's primarily serves American fare with a hint of Italian. The menu is made up of all the thing most folks think of when they're trying to decide what to eat. They have pizza, burgers, fish, salads and even a bowl of chili. The EZ's envirnment is kid friendly and semi serve yourself.
